The Beacon Chain is awesome:
- Continues to be live past 33% attacks/failures
- Enables an extremely long and highly decentralized tail of independent stakers - the unsung heroes, bottom 50% stake which keep the top 50% in check
- Highly distributed multi-client (>5) network

tl;dr:
1. proposer boost (was created to counteract balancing attacks (arxiv.org/abs/2203.01315, eprint.iacr.org/2021/1413.pdโฆ) on Ethereum PoS
2. only some nodes had upgraded
3. reorg caused due to boost applied by some but not all nodes
4. not an issue as all nodes eventually upgrade
This, unfortunately, shows that the analysis by @gakonst and @VitalikButerin here was too optimistic when the article claimed re-org stability will improve in POS over POW.
We have not seen 7 block reorgs on Ethereum mainnet in years.

Interesting all core devs call just now. The high level takeaway is that none of the events this week will have any impact on Merge timing. Progress towards the Merge actually continues unhindered and is doing well. If Ropsten goes well in a couple they will more or less be done.
